An early spring can mean lot's of flowers blooming, and lot's of bees swarming. Sometimes these swarms can appear all the way into fall. If you have a unwanted hive or swarm in your yard, professional bee swarm removal might be necessary.
Swarming is caused when the original Queen bee leaves a hive. Most of the bees follow her, leaving the original hive available for another Queen to take post. There can be tens of thousands of worker bees in this type of swarm, known as a Prime Swarm.
Bees plan swarms many days in advance. They stop feeding the Queen to allow her to lose weight, so that she can fly elsewhere. The workers create Queen Cups to make more Queens. Scout bees fly around looking for the best location to organize when they leave the original hive. After the swarm moves there, the scout bees continue looking for about 3 days for the best location to start a new hive. If you can see the swarm, the original hive is usually within a few meters.
